Fire protection companies
Over recent years, technical advances in equipment design, coupled with ever changing legislation has meant that whereas previously a fire alarm or security system merely formed one element of an electrical installation carried out by the general electrician, it has now become the remit of the specialist installer.
Fire Alarm, Supply & Commissioning
The amalgamation of various small firms in the field of fire protection has meant that a few large companies already dominate the market. However, many of their clients have found that these large operators are unable to provide the personal service necessary to ensure the safe operation of the system and maintain good relations with their customers. Therefore, rather than forcing smaller businesses such as ours out of work, it has worked to our benefit.
Where site electricians are already involved routing electrical cabling, there is no reason why they shouldn't also carry out the initial installation of the fire alarm system. Leaving the commissioning and certification to Blue Shield Fire Protection.
Fire Alarm Design
Our system designers can work with you or your client to design a system for approval by the Fire Officer and Building Control.
Installation and Commissioning
We can carry out the entire installation or just the "2nd fix" ready for commissioning. Commissioning of the fire alarm system involves initialising and testing of every device and programming the control unit with all the required "cause and effect" parameters.
Certification
The latest version of the relevant British Standard now calls for documents to be issued to confirm compliance with the Standards. Separate documents are required for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of the system. We at Blue Shield Fire Protection can provide all the necessary certification for our work.
Fire Alarm Maintenance
Lives are at stake. It is vital that a fire alarm system is correctly and thoroughly maintained. A nominated person on the premises can normally carry out weekly testing. More thorough testing must however be carried out periodically by skilled fire alarm technicians. This is normally done two or four times each year dependant upon the size of the system.
Our engineers are also available around the clock to provide any emergency attention necessary.
Fire Alarms in HMOs
Providing reliable fire protection in "Houses-in-Multiple-Occupation" often present problems for landlords and tenants alike. Tenants quickly become frustrated by false alarms caused by other tenants. This often results in systems being tampered with or vandalised leaving the occupants at risk from fire and the landlord at risk from being found negligent in failing to provide a working system.
This is a speciality area for Blue Shield Fire Protection. Using our Twinflex-Plus system, each detector has an integral sounder. Upon operation of a smoke detector, only the sounder incorporated in that detector is activated thereby giving a localised warning to alert only those in the immediate area concerned. If, after a preset time (recommended 1 minute), the smoke has cleared from the detector, the unit will reset automatically. If however smoke remains present after this period then the entire system will go into full alarm condition to evacuate the property. Call-points and detectors sited in communal areas are programmed to generate a full alarm without delay.
Addressable Fire Alarms
Installations involving more than four or five zones usually benefit from the use of fully addressable equipment. This allows for simplicity of cabling, identification and diagnostics. Each detector or call-point is individually identified at the control panel by use of a clear English text LCD display.
Wholesale Supply
Our stock of equipment and our procurement resources are available not only to our own engineers but also to the general electrical and building trades. Most products are held in stock but next day delivery is usually available for any other goods.
